چکیده

The process of implantation and placentation in women in volves a series of intercellular interactions, the eventual elucidation of which will result in extensions or even shifts of cell biological paradigms. These include the formation of motile and non-motile mononuclear and multinuclear trophoblast, alterations between faster and slower states of proliferation, changes in adhesive properties and further differentiation of the various trophoblast populations. In addition there is progressive local tissue remodelling by both mononuclear and multinuclear trophoblast as it interacts with the maternal environment (Aplin, 1989; Glasser et al. 1991) including decidua, smooth muscle, endothelium and blood.

Platelet-endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 is expressed by a subpopulation of human trophoblasts: a possible mechanism for trophoblast-endothelial interaction during haemochorial placentation.

The terminal event in the establishment of the haemochorial placenta in the human is the invasion of trophoblasts into the maternal vessels, a process in which trophoblasts interact directly with the vascular endothelium and degrade the vascular basement membrane and the tunica elastica of the vessels. To further understand this heterotypic cellular interaction, we investigated the expression b...

In vitro versus In vivo: Development-, Apoptosis-, and Implantation-Related Gene Expression in Mouse Blastocyst

Background: While mammalian embryos can adapt to their environments, their sensitivity overshadows their adaptability in suboptimal in vitro conditions. Therefore, the environment in which the gametes are fertilized or to which the embryo is exposed can greatly affect the quality of the embryo and consequently its implantation potential. Objectives:</stro...

The rat as an animal model for fetoplacental development: a reappraisal of the post-implantation period.

Following implantation in rodents, the uterine stromal fibroblasts differentiate into densely packed decidual cells. This process, called decidualization, is well-orchestrated and progresses both antimesometrially and mesometrially, creating two regions with distinctive cellular morphologies. In addition, subsequent placental development is dependent on the invasion of the trophoblast, the proc...

Control of human trophoblast function

The trophoblast, i.e. the peripheral part of the human conceptus, exerts a crucial role in implantation and placentation. Both processes properly occur as a consequence of an intimate dialogue between fetal and maternal tissues, fulfilled by membrane ligands and receptors, as well as by hormone and local factor release. During blastocyst implantation, generation of distinct trophoblast cell typ...

The role of invasive trophoblast in implantation and placentation of primates.

We here review the evolution of invasive placentation in primates towards the deep penetration of the endometrium and its arteries in hominoids. The strepsirrhine primates (lemurs and lorises) have non-invasive, epitheliochorial placentation, although this is thought to be derived from a more invasive type. In haplorhine primates, there is differentiation of trophoblast at the blastocyst stage ...
